  • They must not eat after 10 p.m. the evening before. ( Water is okay )

  • They must be in a carrier or live trap. ( We can borrow you one if needed )

  • Drop off time is between 9 - 10 a.m. the morning of your appointment. Pick up is 1-1:30 p.m. same day.

T.N.V.R

( Trap - Neuter - Vaccinate - Release )

Please fill out the form and we will contact you as soon as we are able. Thank you!

TNVR involves humanely trapping feral/stray cats and transporting them to a clinic setting where they are spayed or neutered and have their ear-tipped. They will also receive a health check, vaccinations, and treatment for minor medical conditions or injuries. After surgery, the cat is returned back to his colony and habitat – typically where caring individuals are providing food, water and a form of shelter.

On a large scale, the success of this program can be witnessed at animal shelters and animal control facilities as fewer cats are brought in for services.

Who Qualifies?

  • Feral / Community cats

  • Barn cats

  • Stray cats

* No appointment will be scheduled without a working phone number.

Working Cat Program

Mice taking over your home or farm? Want to save the life of a working cat? The Freeborn County Humane Society helps provide safe forever homes for cats that are unsuitable for adoption through our working cat program.

Although relocation of outdoor cats that are not suitable for adoption is not ideal, it is sometimes necessary for the safety of the cat. In this case, we do all we can to find them permanent working homes to live their lives safely.

What is required to adopt a working cat?

Working cat applicants MUST:

  • Keep the cat(s) contained in a kennel or building with no holes / exits for 4 - 6 weeks during the relocation process. Relocating can be scary for a cat, and if not contained the cat could get spooked, run away and get themselves lost or injured.

  • Provide daily care, food, water source and shelter.

  • Own the land / property the cat(s) will reside on.

Our working cats come:

  • Spayed or neutered

  • Vaccinated for Rabies & Distemper ( lasts one year )

  • Treated for Fleas / Ticks / Worms ( lasts one month )

  • Put the word out that you are looking to re-home your pet. Share with your family, friends and co-workers.

  • Hang up posters in veterinary clinics and work/public bulletin boards. Include a picture and description of an ideal home for your animal.

  • When someone is interested in adopting your pet, be sure their home and lifestyle will be a good fit, and that you are comfortable with your pet living there.

  • Make sure the adopters want the pet for the right reasons, and ask for references you can check with if you don’t know them personally.
